Reflection Essay Assignment

The process of learning in this semester has involved mainly writing.  I have learnt several writing tasks, their formats and competencies.  I have had varied writing experiences from others. I have also learned weaknesses about myself. A reflective essay will help me understand myself better and areas to improve with regards to writing and life in general. This paper is a reflective essay on the course of English 101 on writing.

The hardest part of the course has been to differentiate between the different formats and types of writing. I have learned several formats and types of essays and other forms of writing in this course. The purpose and formats of some of the essays are very similar. Nevertheless, to some extent I can differentiate between them and write each according to specific rules and guidelines.  I have faced difficulties in writing compare and contract essays. This because the essays require that one argues for and against a topic at the same them. The contrasting is often confusing and one need to do extensive reading.

The most rewarding skill I have learned is the formatting of an essay in general. Any essay requires an introduction, the body and the conclusion.  I have learned that the introduction is mainly a general description of the context of the topic and definitions of key terms and words. The body is made of the individual paragraphs on the topic. The paragraphs cover the ideas of the essay. The paragraphs are made of a topic sentence and the body that expounds on the ideas presented. The conclusion paragraph recaptures the main ideas in the body of the paragraph and restates the thesis of the paper.

My favorite essay has been the arguementive essay. This essay allowed me to convince the reader on a given issue. These essays are open and one chooses to present their ideas on a topic of their choice. The topics are usually the ones I am most interested in.  Therefore, the essays allow one to expresses their opinions and beliefs in certain format.  The topics is argued with facts therefore it is easy to convince the reader.  Further the essay allows one to scrutinize the views of others (Marni, Silvia, and Titik Harsiati 686). This format of essays is important to understand the view from a given perspective and thus the difference from between their opinions and the arguments of others on a given topic.  They are the basis f my evaluation n my opinions, beliefs, and argument on the same topics.

I would like to spent working on argumentative essays on global topics such as pollution and immigration and climate change. This type of writing will expand my knowledge about emerging and most current topics that affect the human race generally.  The reading on the topics will give me a chance to know the facts about these current topics across the globe.  I will also explore the topics on different cultural and geographical contexts.

In summary, I have learned several concepts in this course.  I have gained interest and writing skills in different essays in the course. Particularly I have needed writing arguementive essay and would like to spend more time writing them.   I have experienced difficulty in writing compare and contrast essays.
