Reality is a broad and complicated word that is believed to be a source of understanding of the actual existence of things in the world of people. Same the existence of humans, wise individuals have sought to understand the true meaning of reality as it relates to human conditions. The belief that wisdom exists forever beyond individual rational grasp is the most mysterious thing associated with the purpose of reality. According to the dictionary, the reality is the state of things as they appear instead of the abstract idea. Therefore, this article aims at explaining the source of reality from experience as opposed to reason and logic.

Based on the research from various articles, reality can be defined as something that exists physically, having existed on one’s mind.  According to Plato, the reality of an object or thing is developed through the opinions we are taught about them, not how we see things directly.  For example, during the building of a house, the idea of how the wall looks like is merely on the mind of an individual building, but after the building is complete, everyone can make judgments and say it is a house since it has walls and roof. The judgment about the building is based on the experience that one had come across a house being build and not having reasons or logic. The experience of coming across things makes an individual create an understanding of how the item looks. Therefore, the source of reality based on the reasons or logic can be misleading. A fake object and a real object need to be differentiated, making reality more of an experience (Ariso, Pg.4). For example, in medicine, experience through virtual imagery creates an experience to the experts on how to tackle critical conditions that different patients experience. For instance, the information represented through virtual imagery guides neurosurgeons. It gives them experience in handling surgeries and tumors, which involve a high risk of losing a life if conducted by inexperienced experts.

Reality can be acknowledged to be the existence of an object from a previously existing idea in one’s mind. Every individual must develop cognitive and critical thinking skills to distinguish between useful and non-useful information regarding obtaining information about an object. To obtain the usefulness of the information from critical thinking requires an individual to develop an understanding. Only through this information can it be transformed into knowledge that can be applied in diverse fields for improving quality of life in terms of bringing things to reality. Augmented reality can be regarded as the technological factor facilitating the transition of information from the surroundings to the mind. Augmented reality involves bringing virtual imagery onto a physical world. Augmented reality enables the users to view the real world with virtual imagery (Craig, Pg. 7). Through the virtual world, the actual worlds are superimposed in the virtual world. Therefore augmented reality is a supplement of reality rather than a replacing component. Through augmented reality, several applications have emerged in daily fields such as robotics, engineering, entertainment, manufacturing, urban modeling, and medicine to help users transmit a great deal of information. Real-world objects are virtually viewed and improved through augmented reality before they are constructed or developed into reality. Therefore, reality requires transformation experiences from the virtual world to the real world. For example, during modeling, a city, the architecture models his imagery thoughts on software, which helps create a virtual representation of the modeled town and enable improvements before physically implementing the construction.

According to Plato’s story of blind men and the elephant, humans have a tendency to explain the truth based on subjective experiences. In the story of the elephant and the blind men, each person believes he is telling the truth, and the other one is being dishonest, thus indicating that reality is based on previous experiences. Reality can be considered a combination of human experience and spiritual or innate experience which motivates an individual to carry out a task. The human experience is the physical or the practical contact with activities and observations of facts and events that help someone remember something and execute it as expected (Craig, Pg. 18). For example, by interacting with someone performing some activities such as building a wall, one will create an image on his mind. When he comes across such activity or object, they will remember it clearly. Spiritual experience is the creation of ideas within an individual’s mind that motivates them to carry out a physical activity that can be judged based on the previous experiences to be existing. The choices we make every day are based on the spiritual experience and lead to the performance of activities that can be judged based on the human experience to be real or existing. For example, building a house based on the ideas conceived through spiritual experience results in a unique structure believed to be a building.

The distinguishing of reality and fake can be accomplished only in the mind of an individual. According to Aristotle, forms and matter are the two features that need to be distinguished only in thought and not to understand reality. Generally, forms are not embedded in particular things and are nor=t separate entities. A specific object to be regarded as an object has to have both form and matter. Based on Aristotle’s idea, the structure is what something is or can be used in naming it. The form is related to the thing’s nature or function. An object matter is what is unique to that object. According to Aristotle’s idea, the matter is the principle of individualization. Therefore, interaction with both matter and form of an object leads to acknowledging the object’s reality. For an individual to say that an object is real, there must be that unique feature or matter that the object possesses and can be used to identify the object. For example, all wheels have the same form or function, but not all wheels have the same matter. Therefore, understanding the matter in objects helps to identify the reality of the object. The reality of an object or thing is based on the thought that triggers previous experience, which helps differentiate the objects based on their matter.

Reality is defined as the state of things how they occur can be linked to perceptions. The sense receptors help to understand the reality of objects. The previous perception of an object from a particular sense organ creates a memory. When an individual senses the thing again triggers the memory to describe the object. For example, when an individual holds a wax on his hand, there is a slippery, sticky feel and emits a hollow sound when tapped. These different characteristics of wax create a memory that helps an individual identify the substance when he comes across it once again. According to Descartes, besides the sense data, the mind also contains ideas that help to identify an object. According to Descartes, the innate ideas of the mind include the idea of identity, the idea of substance, and the idea of an all-perfect being. The concept of substance and the idea of identity are innate and can be achieved by creating memories that later can be triggered to give the same sensation. Despite the changes in the form of an object, through innate ideas, an individual can differentiate the object and identify it by its name. Therefore, according to Descartes, the reality is the knowledge derived from the external world and can provide sense-data, which can trigger some memories or intuition of the mind.

Reality is the ability of an individual to differentiate between objects which exist physically. To distinguish objects, one has to have knowledge about form or function and matter making up the object. The key distinctive feature that can bring reality to an object is its matter since it contains a unique feature that other things from the same group lack. Reality can be associated with the memories created after the sensory organs of a body interact with an object and save a particular feeling which triggers the memory when the same object interacts with the organ again. For example, holding wax between the figures creates a particular sensory memory that is saved in the brain. When one interacts with the wax again, one can identify it based on the previous memories held. Reality needs to be processed by the thoughts and then executed as an idea that later becomes a physical object that can be judged based on its features. According to Descartes, the innate ideas that result in identifying an object involve the substances that can be uniquely associated with the object. Therefore, the reality is the capability of an individual to differentiate things based on their features, and the same thing can be identified by another individual based on the same features.
